Beaches And Blue Flags Galore In Tenerife

One of the advantages of Tenerife being an island is that everyone can get a bit of the coast. There’s quite a variety from the natural dark volcanic sand to the imported golden variety and the unspoilt pebble and shingle beaches. Wimpen complexes are all within a short distance of some great beaches and for those who prefer swimming and sunbathing with snacks, drinks and other facilities near to hand there are refreshing pools to enjoy on site.

The European Union awards yearly blue flags to beaches for their cleanliness and safety, they are tough to win but Tenerife has seven spread around the island. Starting from the west coast there is Playa de la Arena just along from Los Gigantes, then in the south Troya in Adeje is another prize winner followed further south by El Camison and Las Vistas in Los Cristianos. Just before the south airport El Medano can boast its main beach and the smaller La Tejita in the shadow of MontaƱa Roja, the red mountain that greets visitors as they land in Tenerife. Just to make sure the north doesn’t miss out, La Arena in Tacoronte is another beach that has been recognised for its special qualities.
